“The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.”
Arthur C. ClarkeResources
Here is a selection of books that we find inspiring and have helped us in our own leadership development along the way:
Presence by Peter M. Senge, Joseph Jaworski, C. Otto Scharmer, and Betty Sue Flowers
Based on the U theory which involves letting go of what you know and allowing the unknown to unfold. A great book that will serve anyone who wants to expand their leadership skills and be more confident in dealing with the unknown.
Hostage at the table by Joe W. Forehand and George Kohlrieser
George Kohlreiser was a hostage negotiator in the US and shows how to use hostage techniques in dealing with conflict and how to stop yourself being paralysed and stuck with negative emotions. An interesting book that gives a really good insight into hostage situations and the inner and outer conflicts that exist in every day life and work.
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin
Greg Mortenson was a Himalayan climber who vowed against all odds to build a school in Pakistan to thank the community for looking after him. He went on to build further schools in Pakistan, realising that with every school that was built, children were educated and that was leading to peace.
A book that shows how an initial small vision can become greater than yourself and have a much needed impact on the world around you. An inspiring book for anyone who wants to be more resilient with failure and challenge.
Sitting in the fire by Arnold Mindell
This book explores the rank and privileges and the power and prejudice in relationships. Mindell explains the importance of "sitting in the fire" and committing to resolving conflict by working together collaboratively. A great companion to the Anatomy of Peace.
