Putting love back into business

As human beings we have enormous capacity to love. We love our partners, our family, our friends, our pets, our neighbours. Some people love being outdoors, some people love chess. Our capacity to love is enormous. So why is love often missing from the workplace?

Imagine a workplace where everybody loved everybody else. Where everybody wanted the best for everybody else. I’m talking about looking at the person sitting opposite you in the meeting room, the person who has a different opinion from you, the person with whom you’ve been arguing for minutes, hours, days, weeks, years even. Looking at them and loving them as a human being.

Yes. Loving them. Wanting to understand them and wanting the answer to be right for them as much as if not more than for yourself.

What if you loved your work colleagues?

What might be possible then?

The current recession is an opportunity to change the way we do business. The old ways are not working. The old ways where every man is out for himself and competing to be the best.

It’s time to do things differently. Perhaps if we start to include everyone, start to bring love back into business, we will treat each other as we so desperately want to be treated… as human beings with real feelings. Perhaps then we will generate business that is human and ethical for everyone and sustainable longer term.

Putting it into practice:

    1. Next time you are in conflict in the workplace, let go of trying to be right and instead love that person as a human being and understand them.
    2. Notice the impact and let me know what happens by adding your comments below.

      With love,
